SUBMISSIONS
ALCHEMY
Alchemy is currently open to submissions for their Summer 2024 issue! Centered around the theme ‘Speculative Worlds’, this issue is seeking works of translation that “rethink what our everyday lives could look like, hope towards new forms of liberation and survival, and look to new languages, codes, images, objects, patterns, and ways of being.”
Student translators, emerging translators, and professional translators who have not yet published a full-length book are encouraged to submit their works of poetry, prose, non-fiction, and visual art. The deadline for submissions is June 30, 2024. You can find additional information here.
Alchemy is a translation journal based out of the University of California, San Diego that seeks to promote up-and-coming translators and their works.
TWO LINES PRESS
The award-winning Two Lines Press is currently accepting submissions for translations of novels, story collections, and literary non-fiction by African authors. Translations from any non-English languages will be accepted, but works from African languages and/or underrepresented communities are especially encouraged.
Two Lines Press is committed to publishing original works from a vast range of creatives, especially those who have not often been given the space to share their work in the English-centric publishing industry.

GRANTS AND FUNDING
PUBLISHING SCOTLAND TRANSLATION FUND
Applications for Publishing Scotland’s 2024/25 Translation Fund are now open. Administered on behalf of Creative Scotland, this grant aims to encourage publishers outside of the UK to publish works from Scottish and UK publishers, and also seeks to help with the costs of translating the works of Scottish writers.
Works of contemporary fiction and non-fiction will be given priority, including children’s literature and graphic novels. Applications will be accepted until August 12th, 2024. Learn more and apply here.
Past grants have supported translations of Douglas Stuart’s Shuggie Bain and Young Mungo, Andrew O’Hagan’s Mayflies, and several of Ali Smith’s works, among many others.
RESIDENCIES AND WORKSHOPS
ATLA WORKSHOPS
The American Association of Literary Translators has opened sign-ups for their Multilingual Translation Workshops! Taking place August 19th-24th, these workshops offer participants the opportunity to meet in groups with an established translator to receive feedback on their work. Translations from any language into English are welcomed.
To apply, prospective participants must submit a 1-page translation sample and a personal statement. Accepted applicants will be able to view their fellow participants’ work ahead of time, and should prepare comments before the sessions.
These workshops are suitable for all levels of translator, from emerging to professional. Spots fill quickly, so be sure to apply at your earliest convenience. Applications will be accepted up until July 15th, 2024. Further information can be found here.
