IMAGINE 2200
Grist is excited to open submissions for the fourth year of their Imagine 2200: Climate Fiction for Future Ancestors Short Story Contest.
Imagine 2200 is an invitation to writers from all over the globe to imagine a future in which solutions to the climate crisis flourish and help bring about radical improvements to our world.
In 2,500 to 5,000 words, show us the world you dream of building.
Your story should be set sometime between the near future and roughly the year 2200.
There is no cost to enter. The winning writer will be awarded $3,000, with the second- and third-place winners receiving $2,000 and $1,000, respectively. An additional nine finalists will each receive $300. All winners and finalists will have their story published in an immersive collection on Grist’s website. Stories will be judged by authors Omar El Akkad and Annalee Newitz.

GRANTS & FUNDING
PEN TRANSLATES
English PEN’s biannual PEN Translates grant is now open for applications! This grant, which is open to UK publishers, was launched in 2012 as an incentive to publishers to pick up books in languages other than English. Since its conception, the grant has funded over 350 works of literature translated from over 90 different languages.
The grant funds up to 75% of translation costs for selected projects. Works of fiction, non-fiction, poetry, prose, and plays, translated from any language into English, will be considered.
Starting this year, English PEN is also offering a second award in partnership with South Asian Literature in Translation. PEN Translates x SALT is open to publishers anywhere in the world that are looking to publish works of South Asian literature. Submissions must have been originally published in any of the official or unofficial languages of South Asia by an author that is a citizen or resident of a South Asian country, or who is of South Asian heritage.

SWEDISH ARTS COUNCIL GRANTS
The Swedish Arts Council offers a broad range of grants for those translating works originally published in any of the majority or minority languages of Sweden.
Applications are currently open for grants supporting the translation of Swedish literature and drama into Nordic and non-Nordic languages, as well as for the translation of Swedish drama for stage performance. These applications are open to Nordic publishers, non-Nordic publishers, and the directors or producers of the stage plays submitted for consideration, respectively. Projects originally published in Sweden or in any of national minority languages will be considered.

EDUCATION
BRISTOL TRANSLATES
Taking place July 1st through July 5th, Bristol Translates provides translators of all stripes the opportunity to network with leading industry professionals and to learn more about translating across multiple languages and genres.
In addition to language-specific workshops, the program features a number of sessions on various aspects of the translation industry and craft. There’s also a new feature this year: in addition to workshops for those translating into English, there are now workshops available for those translating out of English into other languages, as well as multilanguage workshops.
Bristol Translates is also delighted to announce that the event’s keynote speaker on Monday July 1st will be Maboula Soumahoro, Associate Professor at the University of Tours and the President of the Black History Month Association.

TRINITY COLLEGE DUBLIN – M.PHIL IN LITERARY TRANSLATION
Trinity College Dublin’s M.Phil in Literary Translation is currently open for applications. Based in the Trinity Centre for Literary and Cultural Translation, this year-long course lays the groundwork for a successful career in the translation of literature.
The coursework consists of modules in practical translation skills, history, theory, and culture, all of which serve to prepare students to translate not just novels, but “anything that involves human creativity”, from video games to speeches to poetry.
By the end of the program, students will have developed a portfolio of eight to ten pieces of their work, as well as a dissertation project. Graduates of this course have gone on to work in various positions in publishing, education, and the media, in addition to working as literary translators.

NYU – M.S. IN TRANSLATION AND INTERPRETATION
The deadline for New York University’s M.S. in Translation and Interpretation is fast approaching! Aimed at those translating into English, this fully online master’s program offers core coursework in translation theory and practice, alongside an extensive range of elective courses in everything from scientific, to legal, to literary translation. These options are designed to prepare students for any of the many career pathways available to translators and interpreters in this rapidly developing industry.
In addition to the comprehensive course structure, students will have the opportunity build a portfolio that demonstrates the breadth of their work.
